It wasn't that long ago that a top-end 32in CRT TV could set you back anywhere between £1,200 and £1,400. Yet here we are in 2009 setting up a face-off between fi ve 40 to 42in flat panel TVs all of which come in at under a grand, or more precisely, £900 or less.
Hardly surprising, then, that this size level is now the most popular, according to the sales figures of the big high street stores. What perhaps is surprising, however, is the quality of these screens.
For while it is possible to pick an overall winner, the bottom line is that at least four of the five contenders would make a perfectly decent main TV. In other words, it's time to prepare yourselves for a veritable feast
of big TV bargains.
