Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has just confirmed that the big screen Kindle ebook is set to launch in the UK on January 19, later this very month.

The Amazon Kindle DX features a sizeable 9.7-inch e-ink display and will set you back £305. (UK plug not included, bizarrely!).

"Amazon Kindle DX, the purpose-built reading device that offers Kindle's revolutionary wireless delivery and massive selection of content with a large 9.7-inch electronic paper display, is available for the first time to customers around the world," Amazon announced this week.

"With 2.5 times the surface area of Kindle's 6-inch display, Kindle DX's larger electronic paper display with 16 shades of gray has more area for graphic-rich content, such as professional and personal documents, newspapers, magazines and textbooks."

Free Whispernet

Kindle DX is fully 3G-enabled so you are always able to connect to Amazon Whispernet "to wirelessly shop the Kindle Store, download or receive new content in less than 60 seconds, and read from their library-all without a PC, Wi-Fi hot spot, or syncing."

Amazon covers the cost of the wireless connectivity on Kindle DX so no monthly fees, data plans or service contracts. Which is a nice bonus!

British customers can pre-order now, to ensure they get their Kindle DX shipped to them on Jan 19.
