Sony Ericsson looks set to drop its Windows Mobile line, with a poor sales forecast for its Microsoft smartphone range.
Respected mobile phone journalist Eldar Murtazin has claimed on his Twitter feed that the next Windows Mobile handset from the Japanese-Swedish alliance will be the last.
"SE denied to support WM in future, X2 possible the last one WM device (one more in development but could be canceled). Sales forecast is bad."
More Android
However, he also said that next year Sony Ericsson will be focusing far more heavily on Symbian and Android as the company looks to re-invent itself following tough times in the global sales market.
"Next year SE will show 4 android phones, 3-4 S60 phones. I prefer HTC over Android phones, S60 isn't so bad."
One of Sony Ericsson's big hopes for this year is the release of the Satio, a new device based on the Symbian S60 platform.
If the hype surrounding it turns into success, we could see a larger range of devices based on the new 'Entertainment Unlimited' platform (an umbrella term for the phones taking the best of Cybershot and Walkman phones), which could only help the ailing brand.

2. Hardly surprising given the incoming (albeit rumoured) Xperia X3 Rachel.

1. It dosen't matter what Plat-form dump SE goes with, If you are not going to make ph's with features people want then it's not going to sell, don't blame things on the economy/customers, just look at Samsung, LG, they are growing like crazy, samsung has over a dozen n half full touch ph's, while LG over a dozen & mind you SE they are not resting at that. Nokia was a shade late but have given us exactly what we wanted at perfect prices in the 5800 & N97 which has just sold a magical 3 million in 2months, this ph simply overflows with features, ph's sell for there features & price not much anything else, Nokia could have easily asked for another $200 but they didn't and that's what's making it Rock the sales charts and by the way they have lined up 5 more touch screen ph's for launch by Christmas. SE ph's off late lack features we buyers look for n they cose a bomb - X2 is just 3.2" in display, no inbuilt memory, no FM.....it's a long list of missing features actually and is destined to fail 110% even before launch. The Satio doesn't even have a music jack, Aino & yari are not even proper touch ph's. Who are SE kidding and why are they sill in the cell phone business, I know they will very soon fall into their Grave dug for themselves and ready.
