The Nokia N8, the first handset to run the new Symbian^3 OS, looks to be released within the next couple of months.
While an official release date for the Nokia N8 has never been formally announced, the official Nokia website in the US has it available for pre-order, coming at the end of September.
In the UK, things are still a bit more woolly, as the British Nokia site has no information on pre-order or the like, although Play.com has the N8 available for £420 from the 8 October in the UK.
Back, back and forth
This is a big push back from the previously tipped 26 August UK release date, so it seems that Nokia may be suffering delays over actually getting this phone to market.
Given that the Nokia N8 was announced in April, if it's not launched soon then it's going to be a real embarrassment for Nokia. It has previously stated that it won't unveil the phone until the software is perfect, but if it's taking this long then something is clearly up with the new platform.

8. @dyonas in case you didn't know, this is not the same OS as the N95 - and I doubt you've had hands-on experience with the phone to be so bold with your statement.

6. Why bother putting out the phone with this pathetic excuse for a smartphone OS? Nokia lost it around the time of the N95 8GB. That was perhaps the last phone I recall considering from them based on the name and brand. If I knew of other phones that allowed app installation (not java apps) I would've looked elsewhere sooner.
The Symbian OS might be good but the interface is atrocious. Menu after menu of sub-menus, nothing is intuitive and even after 18 months I still had problems finding a specific setting was on my N95! Now they're releasing this much delayed piece of rubbish as a view to a recovery? Does recovery mean something different in Nokialand?

4. If all you wanted is a basic phone/sms tool I'd probably still get a Nokia but for smartphones, no way. There business is so messy. They should be ditching all smartphone OS's but one and make it actually look modern too. I find it complicated and I'm technical.
Just look at Sony Ericsson. They had as poor public opinion but their Android handhelds are really good.
All the historically big mobile names have really struggled to get a foothold since the iPhone changed everything.
