'iPhone 4G' already set for June release?

Apple - a new iPhone? Get outta here...

iPhone 4G on its way...really?

Apple is 'reportedly' readying a new iPhone for the summer months, and will apparently call it the iPhone 4G.

This is hardly going to come as a shock to many, with Apple having released a new iPhone every summer for the past three years.

But the news comes from Korean newspaper ETNews, rather than a lonely blogger making up stuff in his or her bedroom, so at least the source seems a little more genuine.

The iPhone 4G will apparently sport a dual core processor, for improved graphics and grunt, which fits in nicely with Apple's strategy of making the iPhone platform as much about gaming as anything else.

Drifting into rumours

Other less likely rumours include a removable and longer lasting battery (the former far less likely than the latter), a front-facing video camera, an OLED screen and an improved camera.

We're going to bet that not all of those features appear on the new iPhone – unless Apple can find some way to spruce up video calling that makes the public actually want to do it, Lord Jobs on high is unlikely to waste space putting the function in there.

And the name is probably just code at best – iPhone 4G would indicate the phone is running on a next-gen LTE network, and that's simply not going to happen with this iteration of the iPhone.

9. Apple should really sort out their appalling battery life before they do anything else. My iPhone is great, but hate having to charge it during the day if I want it to last the until it goes onto charge over night.

"It's their sandbox and they're not playing. Strange considering how much their users want it."

Hold on, isn't that "Why would Apple do this to us sob sob"? How tiresome.

6. I don't tihnk Apple ever really had a strategy on gaming when it first brought out the iPhone. Jobs and co had very little to say about gaming at first. It's the work of developers and the enthusiasm of the gaming crowd, both hardcore (see Touch Arcade/ Pocket Gamer) and casual, that has led the iPhone being a gaming success.

Also the iPhone is now an established gaming device rather than a gaming curiosity with the big developers bringing out versions of their top console titles.

5. "Apple's strategy of making the iPhone platform as much about gaming" pointless. The iphone will rarely if not never be good for anything other than a spot of flight control, paper tossing or scrabble. period.

4. The processor, screen & camera were all a bit predictable but i reckon that there will be some other 'interesting' changes to this years model. However, I do think that it will cost the earth. The 3GS is only free on 24 month tariffs of around the £50 mark and if you opt for the larger capacity memory its adding a payment for the handset. I cant see the new one being free regardless of what the monthly tariff costs are - unless its just a beefed up version of the 3GS???

3. The Holy Grail that is Flash on the iPhone. I wonder if Apple ever will allow Adobe to do this?

It's their sandbox and they're not playing. Strange considering how much their users want it.

2. Noone video calls, I used to critisize the iphone for not doing it but then I thought I had a phone that does video call and had never used it. Maybe skype or MSN type wifi video calling though?

Just give me flash FFS
