Google's first phone, the Nexus One, has apparently sold only 20,000 units in its first week on sale.
The data comes from Flurry, the app analytics firm, which states that this number compares with 250,000 of the Motorola Droid (Milestone over in the UK) and 1.6 million iPhone 3GS in their respective first weeks on sale.
However, it's worth noting that a caveat is added due to Google's new method of distribution, selling direct to the consumer and no in-store contracts being offered by the network providers.
New model
This means there's been a lot less in the way of advertising and hype the way other top-level phones are promoted prior to going on sale, as well as less chance of customers becoming aware of the phone as they walk into a shop.
"As a product, the Nexus One boasts the most advanced Android OS to date as well as unique features, such as Google Voice and Google Maps," said Flurry according to Mobile-Entz.biz.
"However, potentially due to the heightened "promise" created by early buzz, the handset has ultimately fallen short on sales expectations."

How is this phone better than the 4th generation iPhone... which hasnt even been released yet and the specs of it are unknown ? Better than the 3GS... probably, but better than an unannounced Apple product that is known for leap frogging over the competition... I wouldnt say that with the confidence you have.
I own a HTC hero, and I hope the Nexus One has resolved a whole bunch of issues with Android and the phone itself because the N1 is to the Hero what the 3GS was to the 3G.

4. People who say no multi touch no sale seem not to grasp that the non US versions have multi touch.... and any US version can have Multi touch too by putting 3rd party software on it from the market place - e.g. Dolphin Browser kit gives you full multi touch for browsing.
So when people say it doesnt have multi touch they are either mis informed (the phone is capable) or just cant be bothered to read up a little on the subject.

1. I was considering nexus one for when my iPhone contract runs out but no multitouch = no sale. I doubt I am the only person to think this.
