Galaxy S2 4G sans contract lands on Virgin Mobile USA today

Better late than never
Better late than never

Always the trendsetter, Virgin Mobile USA announced that it now carries the Samsung Galaxy S2 4G.

Last year's hottest Android smartphone is available through the carrier in either titanium or white for $369.99.

The price may sound high for a handset that's a generation behind, but this is without a two-year contract. While carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint have the Galaxy S2 4G for $149.99 with a contract, without one the smartphone goes for $499.

Virgin Mobile's data and messaging plans start at $35 per month for 2.5GB of monthly data. There's also an optional add-on for $15 per month to use the smartphone as a mobile hotspot and add an extra gigabyte to the monthly data allotment.

Oldie but a goodie

While the Galaxy S2 4G is no longer the star handset compared to newer models, it's no slouch of an Android smartphone.

The 4.52-inch Super AMOLED display and 1.2GHz processor are coupled with an 8MP rear camera and 2MP front-facing lens.

Virgin Mobile will ship the Galaxy S2 4G with Ice Cream Sandwich. A Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S2 was said to be in the works for October, but the month has come and gone without an update.

For those looking to find a quality Android handset without a contract, the Samsung Galaxy S2 4G on Virgin Mobile is a pretty darn good deal, and just in time for the holidays.
