Updated: read our full review of the Samsung Pixon.

We managed to bag ourselves a quick hands on with Samsung's new 8MP cameraphone, the M8800 Pixon, and like hungry ferrets in trousers, we went inside and out very quickly.

The handset feels quite plasticky in the hand, and with the LG Renoir just inches away from us, pales in comparison in build quality.

What is interesting is Samsung's claim that this is the world's thinnest 8MP cameraphone... but the LG Renoir is clearly thinner without even needing to measure, so we're not sure what the Koreans are up to there.

The interface is the same as the Tocco / Omnia, with the front screen blank with a list of widgets to drag and drop on the side, and the touchscreen was fair. Perhaps less accurate than the LG, but slightly more responsive.

No GPS?

The model we were testing was locked to T-Mobile, so there was no sign of Google Maps for some reason. However, GPS is in there somewhere and we can only assume Map software will be signed off for the handset soon.

Otherwise it's totally useless, eh?

Internet was easy enough to use, though hardly ground breaking, which is much the same as the rest of Samsung's handsets. There's no optical mouse here either, which we're slightly loving on the Omnia and Innov8... which would have been nice.

The Camera looked a bit fuzzy, if we're honest. The LED flash couldn't hold a candle to the LG's Xenon, and zooming into photos led to a pixel-filled puzzle... surely something was messed up in the settings of this 8MP phone?

Overall, it felt like a Samsung Tocco that had been overdoing it on the cakes. The battle between Samsung and LG means that the phones both are doing are largely the same, so it comes down to preference really, but in our eyes, the Lucky Group are slightly edging it...
