Apple has shipped early Apple TV units in the US. The new player will stream iTunes content from a PC or Mac to your TV. The Apple UK online store also has the player marked as 'now shipping,' with a three day wait cited for the device.
However, Apple TVs have already found homes in the US. It seems some early shipping models have been sent to big-name US journalists, while retailer Best Buy said it was available in all of its 822 US stores yesterday - even though only 3,000 were shipped to the chain.
Early US reviews have got a little carried away, with the Wall Street Journal calling its streaming "an impressive feat." This was in reference to the Apple TVs ability to stream over older 802.11g networks as well as draft-802.11n. Other devices have been streaming video content over 802.11g for some time.
We'll be bringing you our verdict as soon as we receive ours from Apple UK. Philip Schiller, Apple's marketing chief, got on the soundbite trail. "Apple TV is like a DVD player for the Internet age."
The player is available for £199 in the UK. It was announced at January's Macworld keynote by Steve Jobs.
