Microsoft Kinect is set to launch this coming October in time for the busy Christmas holiday games-buying season, Microsoft has confirmed this week.
Microsoft's Kinect motion-sensing camera for the Xbox 360 will launch worldwide "somewhere in October" confirmed Microsoft Saudi marketing manager Syed Bilal Tariq.
As yet, Microsoft Kinect's price has not been confirmed.
New name for Natal
In an interview with website GamertagRadio, Tariq was asked when Natal would be available, to which he replied that the device would be launched in Saudi Arabia on the same day as the rest of the world: at some point in October.
The launch, "is going to be somewhere in October and we will be in a position to confirm the date at E3, which is in June, but definitely it is going to be October 2010" said the Microsoft marketing man.
It was suspected that Kinect would be on shelves in time for Christmas, but this is the first official confirmation from Microsoft.
We expect to hear a lot more about plans for new Xbox 360/Kinect hardware bundles at E3 in June.
Update: Project Natal was the codename for the device, with the final public name of Microsoft Kinect announced by Microsoft at E3.

5. I'm interested in seeing what games they bring out with it. I can't see it being used in MW2! Jumping up and down on a raft (river rapids I think it's called) isn't going to sell it - not to me at least. What else have they got planned?

4. It's a shame you're obviously a 360 fanboy, why else would you put (unfortunately) after PS3? The PS3 is an excellent piece of kit with some excellent games, as is the 360, get over it. Or would you rather there be no competition and let MS dominate the market? Healthy competition is good for us all, the PS3 is steadily catching up with the 360 in worldwide sales and could even surpass it. Though that depends how successful Natal is in getting new 360 buyers on board.

3. No way. Gamers who want motion-sensitivity would much prefer not to have to bother with the plastic and the batteries. Perhaps hardcore gamers won't like it, but they don't like the Wii either. They're all for Xbox.
Or PS3 (unfortunately).

2. What a load of rubbish.. yes us gamers, ever since the days of the Atari 2600 and Pong, have been screaming for the day to arrive where we don't need a controller and can just wave our hands about to control a game.
Playstation Move will be very successful, as the Wii continues to be. Natal will do ok as the legions of MS fans will buy pretty much anything XBox related. It'll do well as a fitness aid but hardcore gamers will avoid it like the plague.
Gaming is just a side issue and a way into the public eye for the Natal tech, this is really being developed for other applications.

1. PlayStation Move does not stand a chance.
Gamers, no matter how hardcore or softcore, no matter how old, and no matter what their interests, they will always go for something which requires no controllers, and therefore, no battery recharges.
Enough said.
PS
CHRISTMAS GAMING CONSOLE BATTLE FTW
