The new red and blue versions of the PS3 Super Slim console will go on sale in the UK and Europe on February 15, Sony has confirmed.

The attractive Garnet Red and Azurite Blue devices will come packing 500GB of storage and two DualShock controllers in matching colours.

The limited edition consoles are available to pre-order now from Amazon.co.uk for £249.99.

Meanwhile, gamers in the US will get a white-hued version of the console, which will come with a single controller and a year's subscription to PlayStation Plus, according to CVG.

Last harruh?

The new PS3 paint job will be seen by many observers as an attempt by Sony to squeeze some more life out of the six-year old console before the expected PS4 announcement in the next few months.

However, a Sony statement on the newly-painted consoles suggests the company is by no means ready yet to relegate the PS3 to a secondary concern.

The company said: "This year, PlayStation 3 continues to grow from strength to strength with a huge line up of exclusive AAA titles and brand new franchises including The Last of Us, Beyond and Puppeteer."

The latest rumours surrounding the PS4 suggest that Sony may be preparing for a pre-E3 announcement as soon as May.
