Apple has officially announced that it is delaying the international launch of the iPad until the "end of May".
The fruity company has decided to delay the launch due to "strong US demand".
The company did note that international customers (including us in the UK) will "be disappointed" about the delay but they "will be pleased to learn the reason – the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far."
Er, no we are not pleased in the slightest.
The official release reads as follows (try to hold back the tears): "Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad.
"We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.
"Faced with this surprisingly strong US demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May.
UK iPad pricing
At least Apple has revealed that UK pricing for the iPad will be out 10 May – so that is one date we can pencil into our diary.
"We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10," says the release.
"We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason-the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far."
We knew something was up when the Apple Store went down yesterday and iPad pricing was not announced – well, we did get some shiny MacBook news but that was it.
The delay of the iPad in the UK is a big disappointment, considering the US has already got its grubby mitts over the device.
So the UK release date for the Apple iPad is now officially 'end of May'. Sigh.

9. Phew, Lee636 you are an angry boy. Not sure by what rationale you judge a loser. If wanting something that you find pleasing and can afford makes you a loser then there are a lot of us out here.
I for one will wait. I know I don't have a lot of choice. What I do know, however, is that I will be waiting for a quality product which is slick and works flawlessly with all my other gear.
No company on earth can plan for all eventualities - not even Apple. Of course they are going to favour their home market. Surely we should applaud that. Perhaps some British companies could learn from that.

8. I agree with some points that Apple is in danger of emulating Microsoft in it's controlling attitude. Hardware rollout however is always more comp0licated and structured so this can be understood. Personally I will continue to use my iphone and BB 9700 from work as they meet my needs as the ipad mk1 just doesn't cut it for me but if it suits you go for it.
What is less easy to understand is Apple's attempt to control software development in total eg you want to use flash - err no we dont like flash so it's tough. Despite the fact that the world and it's mother uses flash video Apple decides it is a none item and ignores it because it doesn'y fit in with it's business or development model. Any one who sees Apple as some benevolent benign organisation are really kidding themselves.

7. I guess that £500 quid I had sat waiting in my bank for the ipad will be going towards a new bed instead.

6. I've got to say, that statement is one of the single-most arrogant and out-of-touch I've ever heard. Apple are continuing to fall from grace at a rapid pace. Once the underdog, they've now assumed a stance of grandeur that has tripped up Microsoft and IBM before them. Sad.

5. Ermm... Sorry but some of the apps I've bought for my iPhone are 59p. Most were below 2 pounds. Great value.
Also bit fed up of the implication that all Apple users are somehow trend following sheep. Maybe some are, but I like their products. It's only a personal preferences so why get so angry that people make a different choice to you?
Why not buy a Mac Pro? As a company it's not always possible to predict how many units you are going to need. I imagine there are many factors involved here - only Apple employees will know the full story. You either want the product or you don't. I've experienced companies doing all sorts of things to their loyal fanbase, I don't think they did this to you deliberately so stop being silly (sorry but you calm down and read what you've written).
I'm very disappointed too because I want an iPad. It will do what I need it to do. Anything more complicated can be done on my iMac, pc server box, macbook, or my xenserver hypervisor virtual machines etc. (which run on p.c. hardware - gasp).
I don't understand all the 'Apple is rubbish' hysteria because of this announcement. Its childish.
I've learned over the years that all companies make mistakes, and none of them are perfect. The thing is though, I find Apple products exciting. Don't know why, but they're just more interesting in general than a lot of other products that are nearly there, but not quite. I can just use Apple products and have a whale of a time.
Anyways,
Steve

3. Do you actually think Apple gives a ****? The US market is well ahead of priority for Apple, the sheer size of it should be enough to tell you that. Every manufacturer is the same but Apple have the luxury of knowing that for every product unit they make they will sell it thanks to the losers that chase after these 'dream' gadgets.
You know, Apple knows and everyone else on here knows you will still buy their products, they will still screw you over with delays, price hikes and outrageous costs for apps and updates but you will still go back for more.
Its the same situation with Sony and Microsoft over the new mp pack for MW2, there is a month delay from Sony but why should they care? Everyone who has MW2 will still go and buy the map pack, regardless of the wait or cost.
Just wait out your time and go and buy your ifade, you know your gonna.

1. Well that does it. So the American market comes before us, rather than sharing the available stock. What with this and the price rises on the macbook pro updates, Apple is really taking the proverbial with the European markets.
Net result... I wont be buying a new macbook pro and now I wont be buying an iPad. Way to go Apple.
