5 reasons the Honor 10 could be a truly awesome phone

The Honor 10 is about to launch, with the phone almost certainly being announced on May 15, and that’s good news as it could be a top handset.

While we don’t know much for sure yet there are plenty of rumors and based on them – and educated guesses – the Honor 10 is shaping up to be a real flagship at a very unflagship-like price.

Not only that, but it could have some standout features all its own. Want some examples? Read on for five reasons the Honor 10 could be a brilliant phone, then come back a little later to check out the live stream below and get an official look at the phone.

1. Colors that morph

Glass-backed phones are nothing new, but most are just a single color, while the Honor 10 might come in a blue shade that can change into pink, depending on the angle and lighting.

That theory comes from an image leak shared by WinFuture, showing exactly that, with the site adding that the Honor 10 will also come in black and teal shades.

That’s not the only evidence of its color-changing skills either, as the invite (below) to a May 15 launch event (likely for the Honor 10) shows an outline of a phone in a mix of pink and blue.

And whether or not you opt for the color-shifting model of the Honor 10, you should be able to see lines of light visibly reflected on the glass back, as the image above shows, and as the Honor 9 was capable of. In other words, the Honor 10 could be one very good-looking phone.

2. A smarter snapper

The Honor 10 could also have a very clever camera, as it might be powered by AI. There’s lots of evidence for that, including hints from Honor itself, which included the words ‘Beauty in AI’ in the May 15 announcement invite, as well as featuring a GIF that showed a camera shutter revealing the letters ‘AI’.

Additionally, a member of the XDA Developers forum going by the username duraaraa claims to have obtained documents revealing some of the Honor 10’s camera functionality, specifically highlighting its "semantic image segmentation mode", which can detect scenes automatically and apply appropriate filters.

But the really clever bit is that it can apparently “detect multiple scenes within the same image and apply precise multiple filters simultaneously.”

They add that supposedly “the new technology can pinpoint the outlines of objects like the sky, plants, humans, water, etc., in an image, identifying their locations, and apply the appropriate filters.”

AI has been positioned as a major feature of a number of recent phones, but if this rumor is true then the Honor 10 could usher in the next phase of smartphone AI and be the first handset to really live up to the AI hype.

3. A big, sharp screen

The screen is the window into your phone, so it’s important that it’s done right, and signs are promising for the Honor 10.

It’s likely to take more than a few cues from the Glory 10, an Honor phone that was released in China last month, one which has a 5.8-inch 2240 x 1080 screen.

That’s competitively large, equalling the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and iPhone X for size, while the resolution is the same as the Huawei P20 Pro and slightly higher than the Sony Xperia XZ2. So, in short the Honor 10’s screen could be as big and sharp as those of top-tier flagships.

4. Flagship power

Speaking of flagships, it’s not just the Honor 10’s screen that might match them, as based on the Glory 10 it’s also likely that the Honor 10 will have a high-end chipset and run Android 8.1.

The latter is the very latest available version of Google’s operating system, while the former, although yet to be confirmed, could see the Honor 10 rival 2018's hottest phones when it comes to power.

5. A mid-range price

Despite the assortment of flagship specs and features likely to be offered by the Honor 10 we expect it to land at a very reasonable price. In fact, its price tag could be distinctly mid-range based on previous models.

We're talking potentially less than half the price of many flagship phones, which could make it the bargain of the year.

And you shouldn’t have to wait long to buy it, as based on the launch of the Honor 9 it’s likely that the Honor 10 will be available to buy online immediately after it’s announced.
