Second hand mobiles? - Technology Forum

What would be some things to look out for when buying a mobile phone second hand off of somewhere like gumtree.com?

Its just that I'm worried about these off/on contract but no longer used phones. Is it safe buying them as I am sure the person can just take the money off of you report the phone stolen barring/blocking the phone you just bought and then get a new one for themselves then leave you with a useless phone.

Anyone with past experience of things like this?

nothing is wrong with second hand phones but it would be best just to buy a new one. it will be worth the investment

I know there isn't anything wrong with buying second hand but its just that there are some risks that can potentially come along when buying like this E.g. stolen, not working but person tries to deceive you etc
Im only mainly looking second hand because its a lot cheaper

Buy it off ebay using paypal and then at least you can check the rep etc. I've bought a couple of hadnsets off there and have had no problem. There is a risk but its pretty minimal with a little care. Unwanted upgrades are the best value.

Doesn't really matter much anyway as I've decide to go onto contract and get myself either a HTC Hero or iPhone (but the tariffs are ridiculous with this phone!)

Plus the fact that there is no warranty..that is really a risk. But you are in dire need of a phone a second hand one will do and just save little by little to buy a brand new phone
