How exactly isn't it working?
Does it not load up?
Does it not change settings back correctly?
More info needed to know your problem better

When I go back to the settings they show all restore points.
I click on a restore point and it goes through the proccess. After it reboots it comes with a mesage saying the restore did not work.

Ok and you've made sure that you have tried safe mode by pressing f8 on boot up? When in safe mode click run /search run then type rstrui.exe and try that way but if still not working then it maybe a number of issues then
Do you have service pack 1 or 2 installed for vista (sp1.sp2). If not install them through windows update.
What anti-virus software are you running? as you may need to do a full system scan as some virus have code that stops features like this. Also when done if you have norton temporarily disable or uninstall and see if this makes a difference and try again.
If still not working try from recovery disks if you have them
See this link for Vista system restore error messages and solutions, though many solutions include deleting previous restore points which you may actually want to restore to!

I'm on this forum all the time, trying to look for places to get my tech news, but recently found this, has anyone else seen it already? I've never heard of it before, am I completely out of touch?

If I was you I'd try getting installing windows 7. Its an easy upgrade from vista and if it doesnt work then you are probably looking at a clean install anyway.

Re message, did you select the HDD (SATA device)?
