I think the mouse has a much longer life span than the analysts think...in fact it will probably always exist in some form especially for low-end PCs.
But gesture recognition and touch screen interfaces won't be a wii-fit style workout...they will become more universal and smaller, with finer ability to modulate movements.
This will all become moot when neural sensors become widespread though, and we can THINK OUR WAY to cutting and pasting into a new document.

3. Long live the mouse! In gaming terms nothing has touched it for accuracy and speed of response.
And what would I do with all those twitchy skills wihtout a mouse to display them on?
