3. Discs will never die! I want to physically own my software and not have the right to download it again if I want dissapear a couple of years later when they shut down the service as has happened to Microsofts music service and countless indie online distribution titles.
2. At last. Finally I will be free of the clutter of disc cases and the hassle of having to switch discs in my console.
Obviously there will still be disc based games for some time, but if I can download the game rather than buy the disc I would much rather do that.
A 1TB HDD would hold at least 20 PS3 games (assuming every game was 50GB, which is actually not the case) and I only ever had about 20 games for my PS2 so I do not see storage space being a big issue. If it did become an issue I could just buy another externall HDD.
This all hinges on the pricing structure though. If it is cheaper to download a game (as it should be) then the service will undoubtedly see a huge amount of success. If however, the games cost the same to download as they do to buy a physical copy (or worse: cost more) then the whole plan is doomed to failure, because why would a person pay more when they do not have to?
