9. I am reluctant to take the story down as the story was evidenced, and written in good faith.
Rather than delete a story, which is the last resort, normally we would update it in line with the developing evidence but in this case, the comments have done a pretty good job of this already (thanks for this!).
Also, deleting it would mean some interesting points about Google Trends would also have to be removed.
I am happy to admit it when we are wrong, but it would be a shame to lose this discussion.
I am a simple Canadian looking up iphone news all the time and that graph is DOCTORED, I just did the same search on google trends and that last upward jump was NOT THERE. Try it yourself, unless we connect to some different internet then my graph says different!

8. I got the same results as the picture, but like I said, I did it not long after the article was published.
The argument it is in beta still IS valid, as the Google trends app was clearly throwing out misnomic answers.
Surely that's the point of having something in labs version? i.e. it doesn't work every time?

3. which results did you get? similar to mine or similar to the graph?
google trends just tracks searches through google for different topics, and I still see no increase in blackberry searches
arguing it is in beta is weak considering the two graphs do not match
maybe gmail is also a hack job like your implying, no wait, everyone loves gmail and it works great
I say take down this fake news story and lets never speak of it again

2. I did the same search last night, and I got similar results, which was confusing as it says there was no news (no news on the iPhone? SERIOUSLY?)
I think the Google Trends function might not be as accurate as it needs to be yet, which is probably why it still lives in the beta labs.
But the graph is real, no doubt about that.
