Sony will introduce a superthin wireless 1080p LCD TV range at the CEATEC expo in Tokyo on October 6. The brand's new ZX5 Series models will go on sale in Japan on November 20 – other territories have yet to be announced.
The ZX5 TVs employ edge-LED back-lighting to achieve a depth of just 15.8 millimeters. They're also lightweight – the 46in model will tip the scales at just 22.7 kilograms.
The displays will ship with a separate tuner/media receiver which offers a wireless 1080p connection to the screen, an innovation recently pioneered by Panasonic with its Z1 NeoPDP screen.
Motionflow 240Hz and Bravia Engine 3 picture processing is standard, while an Ethernet port ensures DLNA media streaming compatibility. The 46in ZX5 is expected to sell for 550,000 Yen (roughly £3,600); a sibling 52in model will sell for 650,000 Yen.
