Can you hear that noise? It's the sound of the pub calling – for this is Friday (or fish and chip night for Yorkshiremen) and the weekend is so darn close we can almost lick it.

If we were our new favourite footy manager Joe Kinnear we'd be asking which one of you is Simon Bird and calling you a rude word, but we're TechRadar so we'll just tell you about the exciting tech news instead.

We start with our little comparative piece between Nokia's Tube (we know it's really the 5800 XpressMusic, but we're sticking to the simple name) and its big rivals.

Nokia then told us that there would be a whole host of touchphones from the Finnish giants.

Japan

Our man in Japan has already come up trumps this week on the Nintendo front with all the news about the DSi, and he kept up the good work with a look at the declining Japanese gaming market and some great rumour control on the Wii2.

Panasonic is causing a fair stir with their TV tech – and the company showed off a wireless home HD that wowed the crowd at CEATEC.

The computer hard drive market is shrinking – at least in terms of competitors – with the news that Fujitsu is bowing out.

Obama

Barack Obama got his App out for the iPhone, so we took a longer look at the 'politech' campaign.

Zune phone is never going to happen, says Microsoft's Steve Ballmer, but the UK can celebrate as the HP Blackbird 002 finally makes it to these shores – albeit only in Al Fayed's back yard.

DTT is on the rise, which will come as good news to Ian Logie-Baird – the grandson of John and the man who is launching a competition to find the oldest TV in Scotland and convert it from analogue.

7Digital was not that convinced by Nokia's all-you-can-eat music plan, and with Dell taking on iTunes and royalties being frozen - the digital music market is nearly as interesting as Joe Kinnear's press conferences.

So, enjoy the weekend. Unless you're Simon Bird…
