Intro

Sony bravia kdl-60lx903 5

The KDL-60LX903 is an impressive 60in, full HD LCD TV boasting just about every feature going. It's 3D-capable, employs edge LED backlighting and is network-enabled.

A Freeview HD tuner will receive terrestrial hi-def transmissions, including BBC HD. Currently topping Sony's TV range, this set can deliver impressive 2D pictures but is compromised by mediocre sound.

We liked

The network applications, which can break this TV from the shackles of conventional broadcasts. 2D pictures have the 'wow' factor, the most being made of HDTV sources like Blu-ray. Given the size of the screen, power consumption is commendably low.

We disliked

The sound quality, which is actually inferior to that from some much-cheaper TVs – never mind audio systems. There are also some issues with 3D performance and connectivity.

Final verdict

If you want to make a statement of how important TV is in your life, then the 60LX903 should at the very least be experienced in a showroom.

Four and a half grand does, however, buy a pretty decent projector (including Sony models). This will produce pictures of even more impressive scale, and although you'll need an audio system the cynic might argue that such equipment is also needed if you opt for this Sony set.
